This summer, Cesc Fabregas, who moved to London's "Chelsea" team, revealed in an interview with the radio station "Cadena Cope" that the decision to leave "Barca" was his own initiative.
According to the goalkeeper, the leaders of the Catalan club tried to persuade him to stay and even wanted to oppose the deal with the English club.
"I really spent three amazing years at "Barca", won six trophies, but there comes a time when decisions need to be made. I spoke to the sports director Andoni Zubizarreta and president Josep Maria Bartomeu. I said that I wanted to leave and asked them to help me find a way out. "Barcelona" wanted me to stay, and upon hearing my decision, the president even intended to block the transfer. But in the end, everything went smoothly," C. Fabregas said in a live broadcast of the show "Midnight Club".
According to the footballer, he was not afraid of the pressure at the Catalan club, but when he decided to leave "Barca", the decision was final.
"I came to "Barca" to fulfill my dream. I came to score goals and make assists. I think I completed my task. Of course, there were matches when things didn't go well for me, but the time spent with friends and teammates was wonderful," insisted the Catalan.
"If I thought I wouldn't be happy at "Chelsea", I wouldn't go there. I want to be happy both personally and professionally. The president of "Barca" really didn't want to let me go, but I didn't change my mind. A lot of things happened, there were my personal mistakes, but we easily found a solution," the goalkeeper said.
Responding briefly to journalists' question about how his teammates reacted to his decision to leave, C. Fabregas said: "Lionel Messi wished me luck, wherever I may be. We didn't talk about personal matters. He is a great player and always wants the best for "Barca"."
