Earlier we announced that the club playing in the Italian "Serie A" had already reached an agreement with the team from St. Petersburg, Russia, regarding the transfer of forward Cristiano Lucarelli, but now the player himself has stated that he will stay with the Italian team.
As previously announced, the Russian team "Livorno" was willing to pay 10 million euros for the forward, and Lucarelli himself was offered a 3 million euro contract for three years. However, the player did not express any desire to move to Russia, and despite the team's intentions to sell him, he will remain with "Livorno" next season.
"The decision I made is not a heroic act," said Lucarelli. "I refused to go to Russia because I did not want to leave my club that way."
"However, I express my gratitude to the owners of the Russian team for showing interest in me."
Meanwhile, "Livorno" stated that they always wanted to keep Lucarelli in their ranks and only accepted the lucrative offer from the Russian club because they believed it would be the best for both the team and the player.
