Former German national team defender Christian Nerlinger has terminated his contract with the German team and, at the age of 32, announced the end of his career. The player claims he was unable to properly recover after two foot surgeries.

Nerlinger rose to prominence in the 1993/94 season when he won the Bundesliga title with the Munich team. Even greater achievements followed, such as winning the UEFA Cup in 1996, the Bundesliga in 1997, and the German Cup in 1998. Nerlinger then joined the Dortmund team, and in 2001 he moved to Glasgow for 3.6 million euros.

However, in three years in Scotland, Nerlinger played only 3 matches and in the summer of 2004 he returned to Germany - signing a contract with the Kaiserlautern team.

Nerlinger made his debut for the German national team in 1998 in a match against Romania, but due to injuries he only played a total of 6 matches for the national team.
