The star of Madrid's "Real" Cristiano Ronaldo faces accusations of not paying as much as 14.7 million euros in taxes.
Today, the economic crimes department of the Madrid provincial prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against the Portuguese for actions committed between 2011 and 2014.
During this time, he hid taxes that should have been paid to Spain four times.
In short, the prosecution notes that Ronaldo concealed income received in Spain for his image rights, which means he violated the country's tax laws.
The amounts he failed to pay are as follows:
2011 - €1,393,906.83;
2012 - €1,665,304.09;
2013 - €3,201,266.93;
2014 - €8,508,419.55;
It is unclear whether Ronaldo will be involved in lengthy legal proceedings like his main football rival Lionel Messi, who was sentenced to 21 months in prison but did not end up behind bars due to Spanish laws allowing to avoid imprisonment if it is less than two years.
