The star of Madrid's "Real" Cristiano Ronaldo is being considered as one of the older players who could represent Portugal in the Rio De Janeiro Olympics.
The forward, who celebrated his thirtieth birthday this year, simply shines in the "royal" club and has become the best footballer on the planet in the last two years, but has not yet succeeded in becoming a champion with the national team in any tournament.
Portugal secured their place in the Olympic Games after the U-21 team made it among the four strongest European national teams. Today, the Portuguese will compete in the final against the Swedes.
The president of the country's football association, Fernando Gomes, said that the plans for the Olympics are still preliminary, but expressed his desire for Ronaldo to play in them.
"It's a possibility," Gomes told Globo Esporte. "We can invite three players older than 23. Ronaldo is one of the possible choices, but we have not discussed it much yet."
However, it is very likely that if CR7 still belongs to the "Real" team in the 2016-17 season, he will not be released to Rio De Janeiro, as the European Championship will also take place in the same summer.
