C. Ronaldo named FIFA Player of the Year for the second consecutive year (+ other awards)

In London on Monday evening, the 2017 FIFA Best awards ceremony took place.

Altogether in this ceremony, ten awards were presented, but the most important of all was at the very end, when Diego Maradona and Ronaldo invited Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo to the stage to receive the best football player of the year award.

Ronaldo's triumph was no surprise - the Portuguese player scored 42 goals last season and won two major titles with Real: La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

He left second-placed Barcelona forward Lionel Messi behind and Neymar, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Other awards were also presented at the ceremony. Zinedine Zidane was recognized as the best coach of the year, helping Real Madrid win four titles in the past year.

The best goalkeeper award went to Juventus veteran Gianluigi Buffon, who is 39 years old.

The author of the most beautiful goal of the year was Olivier Giroud, who scored an impressive scorpion style goal in a Premier League match.

Women's football representatives also received awards - Netherlands women's national team coach Sarina Wiegman was named the best coach, while Dutch player Lieke Martens was recognized as the best female player.

The team of the year was also announced: Buffon, Dani Alves, Ramos, Bonucci, Marcelo, Iniesta, Kroos, Modric, Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar.

Other awards were given - Glasgow Celtic received an award for the best supporters and Togo footballer Francis Kone was awarded for his courageous act of saving an opponent's life.
