Portugal's national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo and his entire team will not remember the FIFA Confederations Cup semi-final - the Portuguese lost to Chile after an 11-meter penalty shootout and will only fight for third place on Sunday.
After the end of the match, C. Ronaldo confirmed the smooth rumors about the birth of twins on his "Facebook" account, born to him by a surrogate mother.
The 32-year-old footballer wrote in a message that throughout the tournament he had been focused only on the national team, but now that there is nothing left to fight for, with the permission of the Portuguese Football Federation, he is leaving the national team camp and going to be with his newborns, whom the Portuguese has not yet seen alive.
"As always, I have been fully dedicated to my national team, even though I knew that I had baby twin boys," the Portuguese wrote. "It's very unfortunate that we didn't achieve the goal we wanted, but I have no doubt that we will still bring a lot of joy to the people of Portugal."
C. Ronaldo, who plays for Madrid's "Real" club, expressed his gratitude to his country's football federation and coach for their understanding: "I will never forget their gesture, and now I am very happy that I can finally meet my children."
According to media reports, C. Ronaldo may soon become the father of four children. It is reported that the Portuguese's girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, is also expecting a child with the footballer.
Portugal's national team will have to fight without their captain on Sunday, when the champions of the Old Continent will compete with the loser of the Mexico - Germany pair for third place.
