One of the best footballers on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo, together with the Portuguese national team, reached the final of the European Championship after a 12-year break. Fernando Santos' players defeated Wales 2-0 in the semi-finals and made it to the grand tournament final.
In their group, the Portuguese team only finished third but on their way to the final they defeated Croatia, Poland, and now Wales. C. Ronaldo was in good form in the match against Wales - scoring the first goal and providing an assist to striker Nani.
After the match with Wales, C. Ronaldo, whom the legendary Michel Platini had predicted to surpass in goals in the history of the European Championship, did not hide his joy and added that their teamwork, often lacking in the Portuguese national team, determined their advancement to the final.
"I don't think many people expected Portugal to be in the final. We proved that we are capable of doing it, and for that I am very happy," said C. Ronaldo. "The national team is just one. We are a true team, united, and that's why we have come so far."
"Today, I contributed to the victory not only with a goal but also by fighting and giving my all. However, without the other 22 players, I wouldn't have been able to do it. We proved that Portugal is not just me, but also Renato, Nani, Quaresma, and others.
The EURO 2004 was special to me. I was only 18 years old and it was the first tournament I played in. I hope this scenario will not repeat itself and finally we will triumph in the final," added C. Ronaldo.
In the final of the European Championship, Portugal will face either Germany or France. It will take place this Sunday.
