Portugal and Madrid's "Real" star Cristiano Ronaldo strongly denies the accusations made by Spanish prosecutors. The Spanish law enforcement has already dealt with and punished "Barcelona" leader Lionel Messi, and now they have taken on another football genius, reports lrytas.lt.
Spanish prosecutors accused C.Ronaldo of hiding millions of euros in taxes. They have already filed a lawsuit, claiming that from 2011 to 2014 the Portuguese player hid 14.7 million euros in taxes.
The company representing the interests of the footballer, "Gestifute," stated that the accusations are not justified.
"It is very clear that the footballer did not try to hide taxes," said the "Gestifute" company.
The footballer is accused of creating a "business structure" to hide taxes on sums received for image rights. This concerns the "Tollin" company, which C.Ronaldo founded back in 2004 when he played for "Manchester United" club.
However, "Gestifute" emphasized that this company does not match the structure of offshore organizations. The company claimed that C.Ronaldo's company structure has not changed since its creation.
"When C.Ronaldo signed a contract with 'Real,' he maintained the same structure as in England. No other structures were created back then. Throughout all those years, C.Ronaldo had no tax problems. And contrary to what Spanish prosecutors claim, all legal modifications to the structure were made to fully comply with the directives of the Spanish tax inspection," said the statement from "Gestifute."
When documents were leaked in December, supposedly revealing that C.Ronaldo avoided taxes by using offshore accounts, the footballer also denied this. When asked about this incident on Portugal's radio and television (RTP), he replied: "Those who have nothing to hide, have no fear."
The "Real" Madrid club has already expressed full support to the footballer in an official statement.
