Veteran defender Christian Worns of the German Bundesliga's Borussia Dortmund has extended his contract for another year and will remain at Signal Iduna Park until 2008.

The 34-year-old stalwart of the Borussia defense, whose season has been less successful due to constant injuries, on Tuesday extended his contract for another year and committed to staying with the Dortmund team until June 2008, joining forces with the European champions of 1997.

"Christian has been a top-class defender for our team for many years. Therefore, I am extremely pleased that he will remain with Borussia for an even longer period," said Borussia's sporting director Michael Zorc.

The defender began his career in 1989 with the modest Mannheim Waldhof club and played for Bayer Leverkusen from 1991 to 1998.

C. Worns, who has played 66 times for the German national team, joined Borussia Dortmund from Paris Saint-Germain in 1999.
