Former Brazilian national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has signed a four-year contract and will train the South African national team until the World Cup in this country in 2010, officially announced the SA Football Federation on Saturday.
Federation president Molefi Oliphant said on Saturday that "everything has been signed and confirmed."
"This is an exciting time for South African football. The Federation has invited a world-class coach to the national team. Now he and the players will need to turn our team into a powerful force," said M. Oliphant.
The Federation president did not know when Parreira would start his work, but the Brazilian said he would like to do so in early 2007.
South Africa will begin the 2008 African Nations Cup qualifiers on September 2 at home against the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition, in October, SA will meet Zambia away in a potentially decisive match in the group, and in August the team will play a friendly match with Namibian footballers.
C.A.Parreira will become the 14th coach of the South African national football team since the country returned to international competition 14 years ago.
