"Cadena SER": "Barcelona" almost paid three times more for Douglas

During this year's summer, "Barcelona" almost paid triple the amount for defender Douglas, according to the radio station "Cadena SER".

According to the source, the Catalan club was willing to pay 12 million euros to acquire the player from the team "Sao Paulo", but the deal was suddenly terminated, and the transfer details were reconsidered.

It is said that suspicions arose at the last moment for negotiators from the Catalan club regarding the actions of the player's agent, Juano Figero. Unconfirmed data suggests that there was an attempt to involve a so-called "third party" in the deal for Douglas's acquisition, namely, companies that have a share of rights to the player.

This form of player rights is very popular in Brazil and Argentina, where teams, in order to acquire players, must not only consider their own and their agents' requirements but also harmonize contract clauses with sports companies that own part of the property rights.

According to the report, "Barcelona" ultimately halted direct negotiations with Douglas's agent and sent the club's CEO Antoni Rossich and the head of the club's football section, Raul Sanllehi, to Brazil. Representing the interests of the Catalan club in Brazil was agent Andre Curry.

It was only after discussions between the highest-ranking club representatives that an agreement was reached. At the end of August, Douglas finally became a member of "Barcelona," but the Catalans paid only 4 million euros for the defender instead of 12.

"Cadena SER" tried to clarify these circumstances with the Catalan club, but the representatives of "Barcelona" did not want to comment further on the details of this deal. According to the data of this radio station, "Barcelona" is conducting an internal investigation to determine who is responsible for the real risk of overpaying for the acquisition of a new player during negotiations.
