Cafu's Dream - to Win the World Championship for the Third Time © EuroFootball.com

Brazilian national team veteran Cafu, celebrating his 36th birthday on June 7, could become the first player to play in four consecutive World Cup finals, and the only captain to win the tournament twice.

"I believe that Brazil can reach the final, and I will hold this trophy in my hands," said the Brazilian right-back about the World Cup trophy. "I believe Brazil can really win this title."

Cafu won the World Cup with the Brazilian national team in 1994 in the United States. He was the captain in the 1998 final against France, as well as the captain in the 2002 championship in South Korea and Japan, which they also won.

"The 2002 World Cup was unforgettable. Let's hope we can repeat the same in this championship," said Cafu.

If Cafu plays in at least three matches in Germany, he will set a new record for matches played in the national team. The current record is 18 World Cup matches. Former national team players Dunga and Taffarel played that number of matches.

Cafu claims he still has a lot to prove, despite all the achievements he has accomplished.

Many argued about the age of the "Milan" defender and thought that Real Madrid player Cicinho would be more useful for the Brazilian team. Cafu became known in Brazil when he was young and relentlessly fought for the opportunity to play as a professional footballer.

"Many journalists said I wouldn't go far, but here I am, in my fourth World Cup," said the Brazilian.

Brazil's national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira guaranteed that Cafu would play in the first match against Croatia on June 13.

Cafu also said that he is not yet thinking about the end of his career as a player, and it is possible that he will appear in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"I will stop playing when I see that I can no longer do it," emphasized Cafu.

Brazil, which is in Group F along with Croatia, Australia, and Japan, will play their last friendly match before the World Cup in Geneva on June 4 against New Zealand.
