In the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, hosts Cameroon reached the quarterfinals, as well as Gambia on Monday evening. Gambia defeated Guinea 1-0 in the round of 16. The winning goal was scored by one of Gambia's leaders, Musa Barrow, in the 71st minute. Towards the end of the match, one player from each team was also sent off the field due to two yellow cards (Yusupha Njie and Ibrahima Sory Conte). Guinea played these matches without their leader, Naby Keita. Meanwhile, hosts Cameroon defeated a resilient Comoros team 2-1. In the first half, Karla Toko Ekambi scored for the Cameroonians, while in the second half, Vincent Aboubakar scored his 5th goal in this tournament, doubling the lead.

By the way, today the Comoros team played with an outfielder in goal, as they didn't have a healthy and prepared goalkeeper due to COVID-19. The team's goalkeeper was left-back Chaker Alhadhur, who endured two shots in a short period during the match. Additionally, in the 7th minute, the team's captain and defender Nadjim Abdou was sent off the field for a rough tackle.

However, the match became intense again in the 81st minute when Youssouf M'Changama scored a fantastic penalty goal. However, despite the late intrigue, Comoros, who were reduced to ten men, were unable to equalize the score in the remaining part of the match. In the quarterfinals, Cameroon will face Gambia.
