It is believed that the Baltic Football League (BFL), which was supposed to start next year and in which the strongest football clubs from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia were preparing to play, may collapse due to interrupted funding.

According to sources cited by EuroFootball.com, businessman Aleksejus Fedorychevas, who owns the "Fedcom Media" conglomerate and was planning to become the main sponsor of the league, is having legal issues and may withdraw his support for BFL. A.Fedorychevas also owns the struggling Moscow "Dynamo" club and "Fedcom" sponsors the currently underperforming "Monaco" club in France.

When asked about the prospects of BFL, the President of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), Liutauras Varanavicius, did not elaborate: "For now, I don't want to comment on anything. The league board meeting will take place in Riga on Monday, and we will see what we decide."

According to the initial project, the Baltic Football League was supposed to be played by 12 teams (4 clubs from each country) divided into 4 groups following the spring-autumn principle. This year, the introductory tournament held in Liepaja featured the champions from all countries of the previous season, with Panevezys "Ekranas" emerging as the winner.
