C.Ancelotti: "Our start was poor, but we deserved the victory"

Real Madrid footballers managed to come out unscathed from Bulgaria, when in Wednesday's Champions League match they defeated Razgrad's Ludogorets team 2-1, despite not playing in their own stadium. But Spanish coach Carlo Ancelotti not only smiled but also expressed grievances. Three points - good, but the coach was left with a heavy impression of the shifting defense.

It was precisely because of lack of concentration that Real allowed a goal in the 6th minute and made several mistakes. However, Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty kick (two attempts, one goal) and Karim Benzema's shot allowed Real to take the victory.

"We had many opportunities to score," said C. Ancelotti. "I am satisfied, but our start was poor. We missed a goal from a corner, which could have complicated everything. Luckily, our response was good. The team showed a good attacking game, is in excellent physical condition. We had many opportunities and could have scored an additional goal at the end. We deserved the victory."

The 55-year-old Italian reminded that corner kicks are a painful spot for the Real team.

"We have missed similar goals in matches against Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. We need to better supervise the situation around the near post. We pay attention to this issue," said C. Ancelotti.

He decided to change the starting lineup before the match, sitting regular players on the bench. Among them were James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos, and K. Benzema. The latter later rose from the bench and protected the team from shame.

C. Ancelotti explained the reasons why he decided to start the match with Javier Hernandez, Isco, and Asier Illarramendi.

"I wanted Karim to rest because he played a lot. J. Hernandez had a good game, even though he didn't score. First, I needed to let some players rest. Another reason is to motivate players like J. Rodriguez, A. Illarramendi, Isco," said C. Ancelotti.

He reassured fans who were afraid that Real's star C. Ronaldo had suffered a serious injury. "It stings a bit, but nothing serious," said the coach.
