The captain of the Lithuanian champion team "Žalgiris," Ovidijus Verbickas, who has fulfilled his duties this year, has extended his contract with the strongest club in the country.
The 31-year-old midfielder will play his fifth consecutive season with "Žalgiris." He returned to the capital, where he learned the fundamentals of football, in the 2021 season.
This year’s champions title is O. Verbickas's sixth. This time was special as he lifted the winners’ trophy first as the team captain.
"The last few years have been exceptional for me personally because I was the team captain for the first time. There were many new challenges and responsibilities," said the footballer. "It was not difficult to decide on a new contract. The club's vision and highest goals align with mine. I believe that next year we can achieve many important, significant victories with the club and the team, and return to the main stage of UEFA tournaments."
For "Žalgiris," O. Verbickas has played a total of 158 matches in all official tournaments and scored 11 goals.
