Luka Modric's life is worthy of a good book cover - a Croatian who had a difficult childhood and fled from war with his parents, can today become an absolute hero of his country.
The 32-year-old footballer is facing the most important match of his career today - Croatia will face France in the World Cup final. This is a historic achievement for Croatia - their team will play in the final for the first time in their country's history.
There is quite a lot known about L. Modric's childhood - the footballer was born in Zadar, which was a war zone at the time. He lived in very poor conditions and due to his physical attributes, he was not even accepted into football training.
Recently, a documentary film was released, in which L. Modric is unexpectedly immortalized. In the film created in 1990, the aim was to show the life of wolves in nature, and the footballer ended up in the plot purely by chance.
In the video, you can see how at the age of five, L. Modric walks on a stony path and helps his father drive goats into a pen.
As the author of the documentary film himself recalls, L. Modric's father was his acquaintance, but he only found out a few years ago that it was indeed Luka in his film:
"I filmed my friend and his son who were shepherding goats. Soon, due to the war, their homes were destroyed and I never saw them again. Only a few years ago I found out that the boy was indeed Luka Modric.
Luka is a unique example - he grew up in an environment surrounded by wolves. Future generations should look at him with great respect."
