Champions League returns with a bang: "Man Utd" hosts PSG at home, "Roma" faces Porto team (review)

The long-awaited spring season is over - after more than two months of a break, the UEFA Champions League tournament, which attracts the most attention in Europe, returns to the bright screens. This week marks the beginning of the quarterfinal stage, which promises unprecedented intrigue. Two intriguing matches will take place tonight - in Manchester, 'United' will host the footballers from Paris 'Saint-Germain', while 'Roma' will try to withstand the test of the 'Porto' team at their own field. Both matches will start at 22:00 Lithuanian time. Here is an overview of both matches: 'Manchester United' - PSG The only question that arose in the football community after the draw of lots was the result by which 'Manchester United' will be eliminated from the tournament. Less than two months have passed, and a slight advantage of the Manchester team is already visible. The situation changed dramatically due to two reasons - the 'Red Devils' got rid of Jose Mourinho, and the Paris team lost Neymar and Edinson Cavani for the entire quarterfinals stage. Immediately after the draw, huge changes took place at Manchester United - the controversial Portuguese in the manager's seat was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has relentlessly pushed all the buttons with the team in a very short time. The numbers of Manchester's eleven under Solskjaer are exemplary - ten victories in eleven matches played and only one draw in the 'Premier League'. 'Man Utd' has not finished a match without scoring at least one goal. In this winning streak, 'Man Utd' has surpassed such opponents as London's 'Tottenham' and 'Arsenal'. The match against PSG for the specialist from Norway will undoubtedly be the biggest test of this season, but the stability and confidence achieved in two months allow us to expect a positive result. Over the last few months, the PSG team in France has been oscillating - at one point the opponents in the 'Ligue 1' championship were crushed with a score of 9-0, and then in the French Cup, they were defeated only after extra time by a third division club. Despite a quite volatile game, PSG has achieved eight victories over the last ten matches and lost twice. The last failure was witnessed by Solskjaer - the strategist who came to see the duel between PSG and 'Lyon' saw the rival's defeat with a score of 1-2. Comparing the statistics of both teams over the last ten matches, there are no major differences - PSG scored 30 goals, and 'Man Utd' defeated opponents 22 times. The Parisians managed their defense better - conceding only four goals, while the 'Red Devils' allowed the ball to be pulled out from their net six times. There are almost no issues in Manchester United's eleventh due to player injuries - the less important Matteo Darmian, Marcus Rojo, and Antonio Valencia will not be able to join the team. At the same time, PSG, in addition to the already mentioned Cavani and Neymar, will also not be able to use their defender Thomas Meunier. Marco Verratti managed to recover from an injury and played during the weekend, so he is expected to be seen in the 'Old Trafford' stadium. Predicted starting line-ups: 'Man Utd': (4-3-3) David De Gea; Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial. PSG: (4-2-3-1) Gianluigi Buffon; Thilo Kehrer, Thiago Silva, Presnel Kimpembe, Juan Bernat; Marco Verratti, Marquinhos; Dani Alves, Julian Draxler, Angel Di Maria; Kylian Mbappe. 'Roma' - 'Porto' There was mutual joy in both teams' camps - both managed to avoid confrontation with one of the tournament's favorites. This season, the 'Roma' team is in a much deeper pit, which after the story of last season was even hated by its own fans for a while. However, the last two matches in the country's championships gave a bit of positivity to the 'Roman' fans and the team. Playing away in the 'Serie A' championship last Friday, 'Roma' overcame 'Chievo' with a score of 0:3, and in the previous round, they played a draw of 1:1 with 'Milan'. An astonishing result was recorded at the end of January when 'Roma' was eliminated from the Italian Cup after a loss of 1:7 to 'Fiorentina'. In total, in the last ten matches, the 'Romans' celebrated victory six times, played a draw twice, and were defeated the same number of times by the opponents. During these ten matches, 'Roma' scored 23 goals and conceded 17. The 'Porto' team, which started the season excellently in the local championships, is not currently going through the best period. In the last two matches of the country's championships, they played level, and before that, they also lost the final of the Portuguese Cup. However, 'Porto' only experienced one failure during the last ten matches, which was their loss in the mentioned final. The other matches ended with five victories and three draws. During that time, the team based near the Atlantic Ocean scored 17 goals and conceded seven precise strikes. Both teams have problems before the quarterfinal match - the 'Roma' club will certainly not be helped by the shoulder injury suffered by Patrik Schick, and there are doubts about the chances of Cengiz Under, Diego Perotti, and Robin Olsen to appear on the field. The 'Porto' team has fewer losses - Moussa Marega, who also has shoulder problems, and the suspended Jesus Corona will not pose problems for the 'Roma' team. Predicted starting line-ups: 'Roma': (4-2-3-1) Mirante; Aleksandar Kolarov, Kostas Manolas, Federico Fazio, Alessandro Florenzi; Steven N'Zonzi, Daniele De Rossi; Stephan El Shaarawy, Nicolo Zaniola, Justin Kluivert; Edin Dzeko. 'Porto': (4-4-2) Iker Casillas; Eder Militao, Felipe, Pepe, Alex Telles; Otavio, Danilo Pereira, Hector Herrera, Yacine Brahimi; Fernando, Tiquinho Soares.
