Champions League: unpredictable clash between PSG and "Barcelona" © AFP

After a break, UEFA Champions League matches will continue this week. The first quarter-final matches will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. The most anticipated match is the duel between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain on February 16. In 2017, these clubs also faced each other in the quarter-finals. Back then, PSG crushed the Catalonian club 4-0 at home, but Barcelona achieved an impressive revenge with a 6-1 victory at their home turf. The Brazilian Neymar, who scored two goals in that decisive match, used to play for Barcelona at the time. Later, he moved to the French team. However, he is currently sidelined due to injury, along with another PSG star Angel Di Maria. Barcelona and Saint-Germain have faced each other 11 times in European tournaments. Barcelona celebrated five victories, while PSG won three, and three matches ended in a draw. Last season, Paris Saint-Germain reached the final but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich. In the current season, PSG triumphed over opponents in group stages, including Leipzig and Manchester United. In Group H, the French team secured four victories and suffered two losses. Barcelona, on the other hand, was eliminated in the quarter-finals in the 2019-2020 season, losing 2-8 on aggregate to Bayern. This season, Barcelona won five matches in Group G, suffered only one defeat, but finished second due to goal difference. Juventus claimed the top spot in the group. Both Barcelona and PSG have not been showing solid performances in their respective domestic leagues. Barcelona is currently in third place in the Spanish league, trailing eight points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, and having played one more match. PSG ranks second in the French league, just one point behind Lille. This season, PSG underwent a coaching change, with German Thomas Tuchel leaving and being replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, who previously managed Tottenham Hotspur. On Tuesday, Leipzig will face English champions Liverpool, who have been struggling in the Premier League recently. On Wednesday, Porto will play against Juventus from Italy, and Sevilla will face Borussia Dortmund. The other eight clubs will play next week.
