Chance for Lithuanians? UEFA plans changes in the Champions League.

After a few years, the strongest A league club may have more chances to open the doors of the main stage of the UEFA Champions League tournament.

The website "Goal" reports that European football officials are considering increasing the number of matches and expanding the group stage.

It is said that in 2024, the teams reaching the final should play a total of 17 matches instead of 13 (as it is now).

It is not yet clear how the four additional matches would be included in the current system, but one option is to form eight groups of six teams each.

This would mean that 48 clubs would compete in the regular Champions League season - 16 more than now.

Another possibility is a second group stage, where two groups of four teams each would be formed, and the two strongest teams would advance to the semi-finals.
