Changes in the "Espanyol" club - head coach sacked

Today, the "Espanyol" club confirmed that Sergio Gonzalez has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

The Catalan team has only won two out of their last eleven matches, and after a 0:1 loss to "Celta Vigo" footballers, they dropped to 12th position in the "La Liga" championship.

Sergio, who took over the first team in 2014 after successful work with the "Espanyol B" footballers, was dismissed from his duties during Monday's meeting with the team's management. Along with him, the team's assistant coach Diego Ribera and fitness coach Miquel Gomila also left the team.

"RCD Espanyol" is grateful to Sergio Gonzalez for his work and dedication to our team. We wish him all the best in his future career and personal life. For our team and its fans, Sergio will always remain a symbol of dedication and respect," - stated in the club's announcement.

Former Spanish national team member, who as a player won the "Copa del Rey" tournament in 2000 with the "Espanyol" team, led the team to 10th place in the "La Liga" championship last season.

Constantin Galca, who is also a former "Espanyol" player, is one of the main candidates to become the new team's coach.
