Chaos in CL draw: wrongly drawn pair and "Man Utd" ball not placed in the pot © AFP

On Monday, the draw for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals determined another showdown between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, as "Manchester United" and Paris Saint-Germain clubs will face each other in this stage. However, it was not the tough opponents that put the spotlight on the "Red Devils", but rather the obvious mistakes made by the organizers when drawing lots. Firstly, the Manchester club was included among the possible opponents of "Villarreal", even though these teams were in the same group. Furthermore, it was actually "Man Utd" that was drawn as the opponent of "Villarreal", but organizers quickly realized their mistake and switched the Spanish team to face "Manchester City". Immediately after that, the ball of Madrid's "Atletico" was drawn from the second pot and "Man Utd", according to the rules, could potentially face the Spanish champions. However, the organizers did not include the "Red Devils" among the possible opponents of "Atletico", as they were convinced that the English club had already been drawn. All of this was clearly visible during the broadcast and sparked a significant debate on social media.

"It definitely looks like #mufc's ball - in the second pot from the right, back row - was not included in the Atletico Madrid draw. pic.twitter.com/ubxQHdjkQV — Mark Critchley (@mjcritchley) December 13, 2021 "Has the United ball been put back into the pot? — James Ducker (@TelegraphDucker) December 13, 2021 "Didn't look like United's ball went back in for the Atletico draw.
