At the France Football ceremony, where the traditional "Ballon d'Or" award is usually presented, two new awards were also presented. One of them was the Player of the Year, which was awarded to Robert Lewandowski, and the other award was the Club of the Year. The 2021 Club of the Year was recognized as London's Chelsea. Chelsea's men's team triumphed in the UEFA Champions League last year, as well as performed well in local competitions, reaching the FA Cup final when the team was led by Thomas Tuchel. The previous season was also notable for Chelsea's women's team. The "Blues" dominated in England, winning both major competitions, as well as the Women's FA Cup, only narrowly losing to the Barcelona women in the Women's Champions League final. Six Chelsea players were nominated for the Ballon d'Or award - Romelu Lukaku, Edouard Mendy, Jorginho, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount, and N'Golo Kante. Previously, Thomas Tuchel was recognized as the best UEFA Coach of the Year, Edouard Mendy as the best goalkeeper, and Jorginho as the best player.
