The club competing in the Italian "Serie A" championship announced that the most productive player of the club, Javier Chevanton, who scored 19 goals in the last "Serie A" competition, will represent a UEFA Champions League finalist club next season.
Officially, the 23-year-old Uruguayan should move to "Monaco" in the next few days, after passing a medical examination.
Initially, "Palermo," the club that emerged in the "Serie A," was considered the favorite to acquire the attacker from "Lecce," but Chevanton rejected their offer, knowing that clubs like and were interested in him. Failing to reach an agreement with "Lecce," the situation was taken advantage of by "Monaco."
Chevanton should replace Fernando Morientes, who temporarily returned to Madrid and Dado Pršo, who left for Glasgow, in the French club.
The sports director of "Lecce," Pantaleo Corvino, also confirmed Chevanton's departure and admitted that the current situation in "Serie A" is worrying.
"We really don't want to see another great player leaving Italy," he said. "Considering that players like , and have already left 'Serie A,' it can be said that Italian clubs are no longer able to retain their leaders."
