After the chief coach Roberto Donadoni unexpectedly resigned from his position on Tuesday, the club announced the next day that the new team strategist would be veteran Carlo Mazzone.
R. Donadoni left the club on Tuesday due to disagreements with the club president, who publicly criticized his work on television. The team led by the coach performed well this season and defied experts' predictions about the battle to avoid relegation in Serie A, currently holding the 6th place in the highest Italian league.
As announced, Mazzone signed a six-month contract with the team. Due to a one-match suspension, the 68-year-old coach will not be able to participate in today's match against "Ascoli", but he should already lead the team in the weekend match, where "Livorno" will play against one of his former clubs, "Fiorentina."
