CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani is skeptical about the proposal to further increase the number of participants in the World Cup.
According to the official, it is necessary to first evaluate how the 2026 championships will unfold.
"As CONCACAF, we did not oppose changes in the Women’s World Cup, as well as changes in other tournaments.
However, I do not believe that increasing the number of participants in the men's championships to 64 teams would be a fair step for both the tournament itself and the entire football ecosystem, considering national and club teams, coaches, and players.
We have not even seen what the championship will look like with 48 teams, so I think that such ideas should be set aside for now," explained V. Montagliani.
