In Chile, the South American football championship "Copa America" is continuing, where last night there was a match for third place. After a disappointing loss, the hosts' team, who had eliminated Peru in the semifinals, defeated the Paraguayans 2:0 (0:0) last night.
The match started actively, but inaccurately - in the first half, both teams only had a few shots on goal, and no real opportunities to score were created. However, just at the beginning of the second half, in the 48th minute, Peru managed to take the lead: after a corner kick and a scramble in the penalty area, Andre Carrillo scored.
If in the first half the Paraguayan footballers controlled the ball more (54% of the time), in the second half the initiative belonged to Peru - 56%. The Paraguayans also tried to create chances: Edgar Benitez had perhaps the most real opportunity halfway through the second half, but his shot was blocked by the opponents' defender.
As the match approached its end, the last hopes of Paraguay collapsed. In the 89th minute, after a pass from Joel Sanchez, Paolo Guerrero scored a goal - 2:0.
The Peru team repeated their victory from 2011, when they also won the bronze medal. Meanwhile, the Paraguayan footballers lost only in the final in the last championship.
In this year's "Copa America" final, in the night from Saturday to Sunday Lithuanian time, the teams from Chile and Argentina will meet.
