"Copa America" final: hosts or favorites?

Chile is the most productive team in the "Copa America" tournament, already scoring 13 goals in this tournament. Argentina scored 10 and is second in the rankings.

So the final of the South American Championship will feature the two most productive national teams.

The last time the host team played in the final was in 2001. The Colombians, who hosted the tournament, beat Mexico 1-0.

In 1997, the host Bolivia lost to Brazil in the final, and in 1995, the Uruguayans, the organizers of the championship at that time, lost to the Brazilians in the final.

These are the only three instances in the "Copa America" era (since 1975) when the host teams played in the final.

In November 2014, Argentina lost to Portugal in a friendly match, and since then they have achieved an 8-game unbeaten streak: 7 wins and a draw with Paraguay in the "Copa America" starting match.

In these eight matches, Argentina always scored the first goal. In total, they scored 19 and conceded 3.

In this championship, the Argentines scored 10 goals, but 6 of them in one match - the semifinal clash with Paraguay.

Lionel Messi scored only once in Chile and has played four matches without scoring. However, his performance in the semifinals was flawless.

Argentina has not won the "Copa America" tournament since 1993, and the trophy drought that has lasted for decades is a constant reminder for them.

Argentina and Chile have not met for 2.5 years. Argentina won the last two matches between them in 2011 and 2012 (4-1 and 2-1), while Chile celebrated their last victory against Argentina in 2008.

Eduardo Vargas from the "Napoli" club scored two goals in Chile's semifinal match against Paraguay (2-1) and is currently the top scorer of the tournament (5 goals). Sergio Aguero has scored four times, so the intrigue of becoming the best tournament scorer is also left for the final.
