Coronavirus does not scare: Belarus started a new football season

The raging coronavirus pandemic has almost stopped all sports events in almost all European countries. While all neighboring countries are in quarantine, the Belarusian football championship started in Lithuania, reports lrytas.lt.

At the beginning of the season, the "Energetik BGU" team defeated the Borisov BATE footballers 3:1, and several hundred fans could be seen in the stadium.

According to the president of the Belarusian Football Federation, Vladimir Bazanov, the 51 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country are not a reason to not start the championship.

He also added that there is no point in banning spectators from going to the stadium, as they will still gather around it.

On Thursday, only one game was played, in which Soligorsk's "Shakhtyor" lost 0:1 to the "Torpedo" team. The remaining matches of the first round are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
