The Croatians took the lead in the 17th minute after a precise strike by Nikola Vlašić, but Callum McGregor equalized in the 42nd minute. However, in the second half, the world vice-champions proved their advantage. Luka Modrić put his team ahead with a great strike in the 62nd minute, and Ivan Perišić secured the Croatian victory in the 71st minute. This victory lifted Croatia to the second position in the group.
