Belgrade ("Red Star") won the 23rd Serbian and Montenegrin championship title yesterday by defeating "Vojvodina" 3-0.
In the highest league of the country, "Crvena Zvezda" is now 8 points ahead of the team in second place with two rounds remaining. The Belgrade team can achieve a so-called "double" this season if they win the cup final against "Budučnost" on Wednesday.
The victory of the 1990/1991 European champions "Crvena Zvezda" and the defeat of their main rivals "Partizan" helped secure a place in the second qualifying round of the Champions League next year.
This season was the first full season after the country changed its name from Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro.
