"Newcastle United" issued a statement claiming that "Crystal Palace" "offered such compensation that Alan Pardew was given permission to speak with the club representatives".

The 53-year-old Pardew has been in charge of the "Magpies" since December 2010 and is currently the fourth longest-serving manager at one club in England. In 2012, the coach led "Newcastle" to fifth place in the "Premier" league and his current contract is valid until 2020.
