At only 31 years old, defender Daniel Agger announced today that he is ending his football career.
The former Liverpool defender, who was constantly plagued by injuries throughout his career, first announced his decision on his Twitter account.
“Thank you all for your support. It has been a great experience. It's sad, but stopping now is the right decision. I am proud of my career,” wrote Agger.
Last season, the Dane played for his hometown club Brondby, where he began his career. In that club, he played 24 matches last season. Before returning to this team, Agger spent eight years at Liverpool.
During his career, Agger wore the Danish national team jersey 75 times. The defender played his last match for the national team in March of this year.
