Dani Alves was close to shedding tears when the team that he used to play for, Juventus, defeated his former club in the Champions League quarterfinals. The situation was made easier by the fact that Dani Alves felt very disrespected by the Barcelona team.
D. Alves, who spent eight years among the Catalans, moved to Juventus last summer for next to nothing. It is precisely because of this that he feels highly disrespected that they let him go so easily.
“Did the club’s management show me disrespect last summer? Without a doubt,” said D. Alves. “That’s just how I feel and no one will ever change that. But you can’t play at a club for eight years and achieve what we achieved and not have the team in your heart. Coaches, players, board members come and go, but Barca will never disappear.”
“Before going to Juventus, I promised them one thing and said, ‘You will miss me.’ I didn’t mean as a player. Barcelona has many amazing players. What I meant is that they will miss my spirit. They will miss how I cared for the shirt. They will miss the blood I spilled every time I put on the Barcelona jersey,” said the defender.
D. Alves won 23 trophies in Catalonia, including three UEFA Champions Leagues and six La Liga titles.
