"Real" footballers' dream of triumphing in the UEFA Champions League for the fourth consecutive time in Madrid has come to an end - in the opponents' field in Amsterdam, "Ajax" achieved a crushing victory and eliminated the European champions in the quarterfinals.
"Real" practically has no hopes left to compete for trophies this season - they have withdrawn from the cup competitions, and in the "La Liga" championships, they are trailing the leader by as much as 12 points.
After the match, Dani Carvajal, interviewed by journalists, did not deny that this is the worst season for the club in recent times.
"The season is over. It was truly a difficult year," the defender said directly to the cameras. "There is no point in looking for excuses. 'Ajax' was better than us and deserved to go further."
"It is not easy to recover after two consecutive losses, but we prepared for these matches with the intention to win. However, our two mistakes allowed them to gain a two-goal advantage. Later they scored a third, and then everything was over," said D. Carvajal.
Despite the difficult stage of the season, D. Carvajal does not believe that this defeat will mark the end of this team's and players' era: "I don't think we are approaching the end. The team is young and still needs to improve significantly to achieve the desired results. We must acknowledge this and not hide the problem, which is visible to everyone."
