Daniele De Rossi explained that his dispute with Giampiero Ventura happened because he disagreed with the decision of the Italian national team coach to ask him to warm up.
The "Roma" star, for whom it was the last time wearing the "azzurri" jersey, was especially disappointed that Ventura did not want to let Lorenzo Insigne onto the field.
According to media reports, De Rossi's words to the coach were: "Why the hell should I go? We don't need to draw, we need to win".
After the match, the defender elaborated further.
"We have a tendency to warm up three players, and after five minutes we change and three others go to warm up", - the 34-year-old veteran said to "Rai Sport".
"I simply said that we were close to the end and had to win, so we should send snipers to warm up. I also pointed to Insigne."
"Whether it was a tactical choice, it's not for me to decide. I apologize if I offended anyone. At that moment, I just thought it would be better for Insigne to go on the field."
After the match ended in a draw with the Swedes, the Italian national team will not play in the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
