Daniele De Rossi apologized to the "Roma" fans after the crushing defeat against "Bayern" Munich on Tuesday with a score of 7-1.
The German champions played very powerfully in the first half, during which Arjen Robben scored twice, Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, and Thomas Muller scored once each.
"We apologize to our fans," De Rossi said to Sky Sport.
"It was like a stab to their hearts. The whole city was waiting for these matches."
"Bayern has a 90 percent team that won the World Champions Trophy this summer, but we could have played better."
"Physically, they were stronger than us."
After the break, "Roma" seemed to improve slightly and Gervinho managed to score once and hit the post once. However, then followed accurate shots from Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri.
"Such a result is not a coincidence. It shows that we have a long way to go," De Rossi added.
"But the season is long. We can still achieve good things."
