In the past, the famous French national team player Didier Deschamps refused the opportunity to return to the club he once represented and take over as head coach.
A new coach for Marseille began to be sought after earlier this month when Jean Fernandez resigned from his position as the team's manager. Two years ago, Deschamps, who led Monaco to the UEFA Champions League final, was considered the main candidate to take over as the coach of Marseille, but he declined the position.
"It is a great honor that a club like Marseille has expressed interest in me," Deschamps told the French newspaper L'Equipe. "However, I am not satisfied with the conditions offered by the club and, at least for now, I do not see myself in this team."
After Deschamps declined to take on the role of Marseille's coach, another former French national team player, Laurent Blanc, and former English coach Jean Tigana are now the most likely candidates for the position.
