French national team coach Didier Deschamps stepped up to defend the very poor performance of Olivier Giroud in the match against Serbia.
The hosts of Euro 2016 secured a difficult victory in a friendly game against Serbia thanks to a brace from Blaise Matuidi, but the evening was not particularly good for the "Arsenal" player - he failed to take advantage of three good opportunities to score.
During the substitution, the national team fans booed their forward, and after the match, D. Deschamps said that O. Giroud simply failed to score.
"He also contributed greatly to the team," - the coach said after the game.
"At some moments, he simply didn't succeed because the opponent's goalkeeper played very well."
"Of course, he understands that his performance was not very good. He was the one who was most disappointed by this performance."
"But this sometimes happens. If not Olivier, it could have been Karim Benzema in his place. However, the overall team play still remains at a high level."
