Didier Drogba's 20-year football career has reached its final straight - the African confirmed that he will no longer step onto the field.
The 40-year-old striker finished the season in the second U.S. football league with the Phoenix "Rising" team. The player himself had previously stated his desire to continue playing football, but on Wednesday he announced on his social media account that he will no longer play professionally.
"After 20 years, I have decided to put an end to my career," - D. Drogba told the BBC. "It was the best way to end my career, helping young talents to grow. Giving something back to this game is the best finish. I learned a lot from football," - added the football legend.
D. Drogba is best known for his career at London's "Chelsea" club. Wearing the "Blues" team's shirt for over eight years, D. Drogba represented the club a total of 381 times and scored 164 goals.
With "Chelsea," he won the UEFA Champions League and became the English champion four times.
During his career, D. Drogba also played for "Le Mans," "Guingamp," "Marseille," Shanghai "Shenhua," "Galatasaray," and Montreal "Impact."
