Stambul's "Fenerbahce" forward Dirk Kuyt, who represented his country in 104 matches, has decided to end his career in the Dutch national team.
The former "Liverpool" player this summer, with the team led by Louis van Gaal, won bronze at the World Cup in Brazil, and last month was also selected by the new coach Guus Hiddink for friendly matches against Italy and the European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic.
"It's hard to say goodbye," said the 34-year-old footballer. "I will no longer be a member of Oranje, but I will always be their fan."
"I will miss everything, but most of all - hearing the national anthem while feeling the goosebumps running through my body."
"I consider representing my country the greatest honor and am grateful for the opportunity given to me."
Dirk Kuyt made his debut for the Dutch national team in 2004, when Marco van Basten invited him to play against Liechtenstein.
A versatile forward, sometimes even playing in the defensive line, Kuyt scored 24 goals in international football during his career. He also represented the national team in three World Cups and two European Championships.
