„Liverpool“ defender Dejan Lovren admitted that Mario Balotelli's goal in the league cup match against „Swansea“ gave relief to all his teammates.
The Merseyside team defeated their Welsh opponents with a score of 2-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament. „Swansea“ players were already almost celebrating victory when Marvin Emnes put them ahead. However, in the 86th minute Balotelli scored, and in the fifth minute of added time Lovren secured the victory for „Liverpool“.
It was only the second goal by the Italian representing his new team. Lovren claims that Balotelli's goal drought was putting pressure on the whole team.
„I think now everyone is relieved, but I was sure that sooner or later Mario would score anyway, so it was just a matter of time,“ the Croatian told Sky Sports.
„Everyone trusts Mario, he works very hard in training. His work will definitely pay off.“
„When you finally score a goal, all the difficulties fall off your shoulders. I believe that's exactly what will happen now,“ added Lovren.
