"In recent months, I have talked a lot about this situation with my parents, family, girlfriend, and closest friends. I have also communicated with the coaches and colleagues of both national teams, whose opinion I respect. I am grateful to them for the support I received in making this decision," wrote D. Rice on social media.

The "Hammers" defender also assured that this change of national team does not guarantee him a place in the England team.

"This request does not guarantee me a place in the England team. Respecting Ireland, I wanted to announce this decision now and end all speculations on this topic."
