This year, FA "Šiauliai", who fought for the historical third place, preserved another pupil within its ranks. The future has been linked with yellow and black today by Deividas Šešplaukis.
Deividas, who started his path as a professional footballer in this academy, returned to Šiauliai in 2022 when the yellow and black were preparing to debut in the "Optibet A League".
The football player from Pakruojis immediately became one of the most important choices of Mindaugas Čepas. The defender played 62 matches in these two seasons, scored 8 goals, and made 6 assists for his teammates.
Wearing the number 11 jersey, Deividas received Edgaras Jankauskas' trust this year and made his debut in the national Lithuanian men's team.
The player, who signed a contract for the next two years, helped the team from "Šiauliai" win historical bronze medals in the "Optibet A League" this year and reached the final of the LFF Cup. However, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the semifinals and did not play any more matches in 2023.
"Yes, the past years have indeed been good. The 2022 season was better for me individually, but the team remained in seventh place. This year everything went much better for the team itself, although the season was really tough. With the team, we reached the final of the LFF Cup and for the first time in the history of the academy, we won medals, so 2023 was truly great. Of course, I am very happy that while playing in Šiauliai, for the first time in my career I was called up to the national Lithuanian men's team."
As I mentioned, the years were great, but everything was turned upside down by that serious injury. Nevertheless, despite that, I think we can say that these two missed years in Šiauliai were some of the best in my career, but I believe that even better times await me in the future."
Of course, even before the injury, I had talked to the academy managers about my fate in the city of the sun. I think many clubs knew about the severity of my injury, so there were no offers. Knowing my situation, "Šiauliai" offered a new contract, which I signed today."
Since the beginning of the rehabilitation, I have been feeling really good. I am doing it with the help of the team's physiotherapist and physical fitness coach Jonas Andriulis. Although two months have already passed, it is difficult to say exactly when I will return to the field, but I hope that time will not be long. First of all, I need to smoothly go through all stages of rehabilitation." - said D. Šešplaukis, who remained in Šiauliai.
