The Madrid "Atletico" club ended its participation in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday after losing to the Madrid "Real" club in a penalty shootout.
Perhaps the most debated moment after the match was the disallowed penalty by Atletico forward Julian Alvarez, as a double touch on the ball was detected after a VAR review.
After the match, Atletico's coach Diego Simeone did not hide his anger at such a decision.
"I reviewed that episode again. The referee said that before the shot, Julian touched the ball with his supporting foot, but I don't see the ball moving at all."
There can be a lot of debate about whether the goal should have been counted or not. Regardless of everything, I am proud of my players. We showed an example of how to fight in such matches," said D. Simeone.
