Former Argentinian national team defender Diego Simeone is leaving Madrid and returning to his homeland - he will be loaned to the "Racing Avellaneda" club starting from January.

34-year-old Simeone won the Spanish championship and cup with "Atletico" eight years ago and was particularly loved among the team's fans, but last summer when he returned to the club, he failed to establish himself in the main team lineup.

D.Simeone is the only Argentine player who has played more than 100 matches for the national team. His 106th and final appearance for Argentina was in the 2002 World Cup match against England, which the Argentine team lost 1-0.

He started his club career at "Velez", then played for clubs like "Pisa" and "Sevilla". After his historic success with "Atletico", he also moved to "Inter", with which he won the UEFA Cup in 1998.

In 1999, Simeone moved to "Lazio" and made a significant contribution to the Rome club's triumph in the Italian championship and cup tournament. After playing four seasons in Italy, he decided to return to "Atletico".
