"Panevėžys” football club will return to the "TOPsport A League” battles after a two-week break. The 28th round of the Lithuanian championship marks the second away game in Alytus and a clash with the local DFK "Dainava”.
This will be the start of the fourth round, and the previous three matches have gone somewhat better for the Panevėžys team. The first two matches ended in draws of 0:0, while in the third confrontation, following quickly scored goals from Nicolas Gorobsovas and Ernestas Veliulis, they managed to win 2:0.
In the tournament table, Panevėžys is in tenth place with 23 points, while the Alytus club has fought for 7 victories, drawn 8 times, and lost 11 out of 26 matches. Demonstrating the second-best defense, the team has 29 points and is in seventh place. In the last match, Dainava played to a goalless draw with FA "Šiauliai”, and Panevėžys also recently shared points with Vilnius "Žalgiris” in an identical manner – 0:0.
About the upcoming trip to Alytus and his debut in international competitions, Panevėžys player Domantas Vaičekauskas shared his thoughts.
"The impressions are mixed; of course, it’s very nice to play in European competitions for the first time, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. On the other hand, that joy and good emotion are almost completely wiped out by the overall performance of the team and the match result. Regarding being out of the lineup, I had an injury – a stress fracture, which is quite unpleasant and has unexpectedly lingered, but I have already healed and am slowly returning.”
It’s not hard to say that the team’s psychological state is definitely not the best. A positive result, of course, is just three points, and to achieve that, the team will need to bounce back psychologically and be ready to fight at 110 percent because, at this moment, we can only achieve a positive result with desire and determination,” the defender shared his thoughts with fk-panevezys.lt.
The match in Alytus will take place on Sunday, August 25th. The clash will start at 4 PM.
