D. van de Beek: "Solskjaer asked me to stay at the club" © PA

Donny van de Beek is one of the reserves of Manchester United who still has potential to shine. The Dutchman joined the "Red Devils" last year and did not have many chances to show his abilities, but he may get more opportunities this season, as he mentioned in an interview with Rio Ferdinand that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer asked him to stay in the team. Van de Beek said: "Solskjaer told me: 'I want you to stay here.' So I have to trust him. If I were not needed by him, then I think he would let me go. I think he has plans for me, so I have to continue working hard and hope that one day I can show the fans what I can do." The Dutchman was also asked if he can play in the midfield position, where Manchester United currently need players. Van de Beek replied: "Yes. I can play in positions 8 and 6. They know me from that, because at Ajax I played a lot of time as number 10, but of course, I can also play as a number 6 or 8." The number 6 position is a defensive midfielder role usually occupied by Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic, sometimes Fred as well. Meanwhile, the number 8 is a box-to-box midfielder role. Van de Beek also added: "You can train every day, but ultimately you need game time to understand your form. If you only play once a month or so, then you won't show your best version."
