D.Alvesas: "I Realized that Fans Love and Appreciate Me"

On June 9th, Brazilian Daniel Alves, who had signed a new contract with "Barcelona", held a press conference where he explained his decision to accept the offer from the Catalan club to stay in the team.

The negotiations between the footballer and representatives of "Barcelona" lasted for the past three months and were at an impasse several times. Just when it seemed like the defender was definitely leaving the team, news of a new agreement emerged - Dani Alves signed a two-year contract with "Barcelona" with the possibility of extending it for another season. He should play for the Catalan club at least until the summer of 2017.

"During the season, I had serious doubts about whether I was really needed in this team. There were people who probably benefit from undervaluing me, but I made them quiet with my work, efforts and game. Still, I didn't feel good, but on Sunday, during the celebration at the 'Camp Nou' stadium, I saw how everything changed. I realized I was wrong to think I was unnecessary. I realized that fans love and appreciate me, and I am really needed for the team. This is one of the most important things, because the supporters also had serious doubts about me," - opened up the Brazilian.

According to the defender, his decision to stay is a combination of many factors.

Many factors were influenced by the fact that the team will continue to be coached by Luis Enrique: "Before the season, the coach told me: 'Daniel, don't go anywhere, it will be fun'. Well, I stayed and everything was really fun. The same was said to me by Lionel Messi, he explained that it wouldn't be as good in any other club as it is in 'Barcelona'. Now we face a much tougher task: to win everything again. I know it's difficult, but I like challenges. When I found out that Luis Enrique is staying, I decided to stay too," he said.

The footballer also denied rumors that the negotiations with "Barcelona" were prolonged because he wanted more money.

"If money alone decided everything, I wouldn't be at 'Barcelona' anymore. I want to say that there was no war between me and the club, we just needed to reconcile interests. It's completely normal. Being here and writing the history of this club - it's a fantastic feeling. There are still blank pages in this book," - did not avoid vivid comparisons the legionnaire of the Catalan club.

"Perhaps I will end my professional career right here at 'Barcelona'. The future will show. But one thing is clear to me now - if I leave this team, I wouldn't want to compete against it. I will do everything to stay here not only for those two years when my contract is valid. I want to play in 'Barcelona' for that third season, which I will have to earn," confirmed Dani Alves.

The Brazilian also addressed questions about personal challenges in the new season. "Barcelona" announced earlier that they acquired Aleix Vidal to play in the right back position, who will likely compete with Dani Alves for a permanent spot in the starting eleven.

"Well, healthy competition is a very good thing. Aleix is a great player. Either he will make me a better footballer, or - I will make him," said the veteran of the Catalan team.
